3 Year Checkup

Another birthday means a well visit to the doctor. This big girl was exactly that. A BIG girl. Some things were a little different this time. It was her first time at the doctor's office having her blood pressure taken and first time getting a paper gown. Some things so simple make them look so old.....

Right after all her vitals and such were checked, Ms. Mitzi (the nurse) peeked her head in the door and said, "One vaccination today." Immediately my waytoosmartforherowngood girl looked at me and said, "Mama, I don't want a shot today!" So I ignored it for a while, told her it wouldn't take long, then proceeded with a little, ahem, bribery.

When Dr. Chin came in, she was all excited to tell her all about everything. And I do mean everything. Everything she asked, and then some. Developmentally she's right where she should be (I mean, of course, she did just know the meaning of the word vaccination). For documentation's sake:
  • Weight: 33lbs (80%)
  • Height: 38" (80%)
  • Wears 3T clothes (for just a tad longer) and size 9 shoe
  • Knows her full name, address, birthday, and our full names
  • Can count to fourteen (and 6 in Spanish...thanks Dora)
  • Knows colors, shapes, number recognition (0-9), and most of the letters of the alphabet
  • Is able spell and write her first name (not written perfectly, but clearly her name)
  • Copies writing letters to make words (although she doesn't know what she's writing)
  • Pretty close to being labeled a "lefty" although she still switches some
  • Loves books, music, Dora, Princesses, and Minnie Mouse
  • Favorite Song: "I Need You Now" by Lady Antebellum (and can sing it word for word...I know.....)

So after Ella was finished chatting it up with Dr. Chin, she left to go get "stickers". Ms. Mitzi came back in with a box full of stickers. Ella chose Minnie Mouse and Princess and the Frog stickers for after her shot. As she was laying down on the table, I held her arms (and blocked the view of her legs by leaning over her waist). The nurse asked her to count. Of course Ella started in: "One......two (flinch)..........three........four." "Ok, girl! I'm all done," Ms. Mitzi said. And that was that. No tears. No nothing. Of course she earned that ice cream I promised her!
