What's Up, Doc?

With every big age milestone comes an equally exciting doctor's visit. So last week, it was that time. Time to see what her new stats are as well as to show Dr. Chin how she's developing. Ella never lets me down when it's time to show off all her "smarts" but this visit proved to be the most entertaining yet. She is getting quite independent in her old age and she isn't about to let someone do something for her that she can do herself. Including her pediatrician.

See this cute little doctor set that she received for her birthday? Well, since she is the "expert" and knows exactly what each instrument and tool is used for, "me do it" was the response for everything. Dr. Chin wanted to listen to her chest: "Me do it." When she wanted to look in her mouth: "My Ah." (that's what she calls that instrument) Of course, God chooses pediatricians carefully, so Dr. Chin was wonderful with her. "Ok, Ella, you put the stethoscope to your heart and I'll listen" and "You hold the 'ah' and I'll look." Miss Independent was totally game for those ideas and did exactly as she was asked. Dr. Chin showed her where her heart was and how to hold the "ah" (she likes this name by the way and says she's going to call it an "ah" with all her patients). Of course, she is now completely convinced Ella's calling in life is to be a doctor. The fact that she is reading the medical books and pamphlets every time she comes in probably is a factor as well. Elmo secretly came along for the ride in my bag (in case we needed him for shots) and when she didn't want to cooperate by getting her weight and height taken, I pulled him out a little sooner than expected. Just as she did with Dr. Chin, once Elmo was weighed and measured by Ella (as the nurse showed her which buttons to push) she was more than willing to give it a try herself. We'll just say she had a large portion of the office entertained with her, ahem, strong personality. What didn't she help do? Shots. Ok, so maybe we didn't give her the option on that one. She was a champ and was ready for "shoes on" no more than ten seconds afterwards. But don't be mistaken- she knows what to do...

Two Year Stats:

  • Weight: 28.2 pounds (75th percentile)
  • Height: 34 inches tall (75th percentile)
  • Head Circumference: 18.5 inches (50th percentile)
  • Everything developmental is as it should be. Dr. Chin is very pleased to know that she'll be starting a preschool program. Apparently doctors need early schooling. :)
  • She does think she's showing preference to her left hand. It's still a tad early to tell, but she predicts a lefty. How in the world will I teach a lefty to write?
  • NO MORE shots until she's four. Like she often says, "Yay for Ella!"

I will gladly work for her one day! :) So glad she got great stats and was such a champ. We think Dalton may be a lefty too. Obviously with him it is WAY too early, but he feeds himself and passes stuff over to his left hand. We'll see. I would have no idea how to teach them either!
