A Lazy Day at the Zoo

Last week we took a visit to the zoo with Aunt Kora, Uncle J, and Kate. Even with the gloomy forecast, we managed to squeeze in a few hours before the rain set in. I think everyone had a great time. Once we made it, parked, and got tickets, the girls got all set to go:

Don't you just love this "cheese" shot Kate gives?

After visiting the flamingos (which do, in fact, get their pink coloration from the shrimp and high level of beta-carotene they eat...just in case you were wondering) we saw the elephants first.

The first responses to seeing animals at the zoo were priceless:

The next stop was the parakeet house. This was quite noisy, but neat. We all enjoyed this exhibit. Uncle J bought the girls "seed sticks" that you'll see in the pictures. This helped to entice the birds to come and visit and little longer.

After all the fun and laughs we had with the parakeets (as you'll see in a video at the end of this post), we headed off to see the giraffes.

Then the gorillas.

The gorillas were my favorite animal to photograph, and these next animals are just my favorite and have been for a really long time.

This is the baby that was born a couple of years ago. He was the most active animal we saw, but more on that in a minute.

After seeing all the animals (I didn't bore you with every animal we saw), we stopped and grabbed a bite to eat.

If I had to pick an overall thought or theme for the day, it would be that those animals are L.A.Z.Y!

We really did all have a wonderful time, even if those animals didn't put on a show for us. The video below is, in my opinion, the funniest part of our day. I just happened to catch it on video. Please pardon the conversation and all of our loud mouths...just laugh with us at the ending.

Kate, that is my exact reaction to all birds when they come anywhere near me. Too cute!
